News From Our Program Director

Indian Rocks Family Sailing enjoyed 15 years of shared ministry with Calvary Episcopal Church Indian Rocks Beach. But over the past three years, we have run out of space for our expanding fleet of boats and our expanding numbers of kids enrolled in our programs. Quite simply, we have outgrown our space at Calvary! As a result, we have moved all our operations from Calvary to Clearwater Yacht Club. We leave Calvary with gratitude and fond memories for all that the parish has done to support our programs and mission, and in the knowledge that there will be future special events which bring us “home” to Calvary such as our upcoming Ted Irwin Memorial Sailathon benefit for the Beach Community Food Pantry.

Our fond farewell to Calvary has been followed by a warm and generous welcome by the Officers, Staff, and Members of Clearwater Yacht Club. Our programs are fully underway and I have even been given an administrative office directly on the dock at CYC. Our Opti team members are preparing for upcoming regattas. Our 420 team kids are practicing every weekend at Clearwater Community Sailing Center. Our adult volunteers are motivated. Our Ted Irwin Memorial Sailathon planning teams are up and running and their work is in full swing thanks to the Rotary Club of Indian Rocks Beach who have agreed to serve as our Principal Event Sponsor through a generous donation of $700.00 ! This Fall, we are being blessed with generous support from our benefactors, excellent wind, and comfortable weather conditions as we begin a new and exciting chapter in our life as Indian Rocks Family Sailing “Intrepid Sailors” at Clearwater Yacht Club.

Our growth and continued commitment to serve the families of Pinellas County and beyond has only been possible through the support and encouragement of Calvary Episcopal Church, Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue, Rotary Indian Rocks Beach, the board, staff, and members of Clearwater Yacht Club and our dedicated team of youth and adult volunteers. Thanks to them, and to all our volunteers, donors, and benefactors, IRFSA has touched the lives of hundreds of kids “for good” and this is a blessing that will endure for many years to come.

Wishing you “fair winds and many blessings!”
